If you finish the trial version and decide it's not for you, simply compile your project(s) to a format to be used in your selected software (but it's all still there in the project in RTF format, you just have to scrounge a bit to get it). So far the only real difference I am seeing between this and the Mac version are aesthetics.

You certainly DO NOT edit using Word and Scrivener at the same time. Remember, compilation has to happen in the Mac version of Scrivener the PC version doesnt have the functionality yet. I heard time and again that the Mac version was superior, but, while there are differences, I don’t really see a superiority. The Mac and Windows versions of the program are pretty similar. Generally, once you've got your work ready to go, you export (Compile) to Word etc. I somewhat prefer Scrivener as a word-processor, and wrote the first draft of this post on the it, using my Custom Theme (below). It isn't straightforward to move between Word (whatever) and Scrivener and back. If you aren't going to be working on multiple computers, then you might not even need DB, just make sure you're backing up your precious work somewhere!

Working in the Cloud is easy with Dropbox (not so straightforward with iCloud or Google for technical reasons) as long as you follow instructions. So don't expect beautiful kerning and leading (that's for after you've finished in Scrivener). What is ISN'T is WYSIWYG (it's NOT Word!). What Scrivener Is (all platforms) is a really helpful way to structure your writings. The Win version arguably could be called less slick than the Mac but it's never bothered me - just as some people are still happily using yWriter (and than hasn't been updated since the Mayflower). If the aesthetics of the appearance is a concern (apart from the gap in some functionality), then go with the Mac version. Having said that, I happily use the Win version. Get a discount if you have the Mac version of Scrivener and want to buy the Windows version or vice versa. The Mac version is much more "refined" (this is because it's always been a Mac app and the win version came much, much later). I am still using Scrivener as I did when it was "Scrivener Gold" and was merely a glint in the developer's eye. BUT I'm not a power user - I don't use all the crap facilities that other high end users "require". I'm currently using the old version on Win and the latest Mac and iOS versions. I think the whole 3 is better than 1.9 thing is in some ways in the eye of the beholder AND in the way different people use the software.
